Ham sandwich

A classic and easy ham sandwich featuring honey roast ham, cheddar cheese, and fresh salad leaves. It is dressed with a homemade Dijon mustard and mayonnaise spread for extra flavor.

  • 0.25 red onion thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp salted butter softened
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • a squeeze of honey
  • 4 slices seeded farmhouse bread
  • 8 slices wafer thin honey roast ham
  • 40 g Cornish Cruncher cheddar (optional)
  • a handful of watercress rocket or Iceberg lettuce
  • 1 tomato thinly sliced

Soak the sliced onion in some ice water for 5 mins to tame its heat, then remove and pat dry with kitchen paper.

Spread one slice of the bread with butter.

Mix the Dijon mustard, mayonnaise, and honey with a pinch of salt and pepper in a small bowl.

Spread the mustard mixture across the inside of both slices of bread.

Sprinkle the tomato slices with salt and pepper.

Layer up the sandwich with the ham, cheese, watercress, onion, and tomato.

Lay the remaining slice of bread on top and slice in half.
